Two-Over-One Game-Forcing System

Introduction

If you are not already familiar with Two-Over-One Game-Forcing then please read A Basic Guide to Two-Over-One Game-Forcing. A Two-Over-One Game-Forcing system consists of:

• 5-card Major suit opening bids. Balanced hands outside the 1NT range may be opened with a 3-card minor suit.
• A (non-jump) new suit response at the two level to an opening bid of one of a suit shows a hand that would itself have opened the bidding. A two-over-one new suit response forces the bidding to game.
• Since responder needs to have some way of bidding lesser hands that have no suit to bid at the one level, the 1NT response is wide-ranging (6-11 hcp). If the opening bid was 1♥ or 1♠ then the 1NT response is forcing.

I should also point out that Two-Over-One Game-Forcing methods are standard in the Precision bidding system (often known as "Precision Club") and in other strong club systems having 5-card major opening bids that are derived from Precision.
