Chris Burton's Conventions and Systems

Menu

Introduction

I have provided these pages as useful information about some commonly-used conventions and some notes on the modern meanings attached to certain bids. Anyone who has played with me will know that I am very interested in useful conventions that help us to reach better contracts or to compete effectively in the auction. I am also interested in the methods the experts use. After all, one can be sure that the experts would not use methods that don't work well.

However, I do not believe in a huge memory overload. I have attempted to describe some useful conventions in a simple manner that helps them to be easily learnt and understood. In addition I have summarised the modern approach to competitive auctions, an area in which some new bids and some changed inferences have evolved over the last thirty years. I hope you will find these pages useful.

Feedback

I welcome feedback on any of these pages, especially from my fellow club members though all readers are welcome to contact me. If anything I have said is not clear to you, please let me know because it won't be clear to others either and that defeats the object of the effort I am making.

Please see me at the club or email me.

Further Reading

I have prepared a list of recommended books on bidding that I think you will find useful. At least you will know where I get much of this information from and can read it in full from the pen of the expert authors.

There is a second list of recommended books on card play.
